Move-In Information: New Undergraduate Students

Fall 2019

Welcome to Cornell! We are excited to have you join us as new members of our campus community.

For information about your housing assignment and what your room / building will be like, please visit Your Housing Assignment FAQs.

First-Year students will receive notification of housing assignments in mid-June, 2019. Transfer student housing assignments will be released in late-June, 2019.

When to move in:

To ensure a safe and efficient move-in experience, new studentss will be assigned a move-in appointment (date and time) during one of the following days:

     Friday, August 23; 8am-5pm
     Saturday, August 24; 7am-1pm

Students will be notified of their individually assigned move-in date and timeslot after housing assignments are released in mid-June. Adhering to your assigned timeslot will allow us to provide the best possible move-in experience. All new students are welcome to participate in programs that take place on Friday. University-wide Orientation will begin with New Student Convocation at 2pm on Saturday.

More information on:

Unloading Permit

All new students will be required to present a Permit for Move-in. Information on obtaining the permit will be shared with the individually assigned move-in date and timeslot.

Move-In Requirements

  • Families may bring only ONE vehicle on to campus.
  • Vehicles over 14 feet long will not be permitted during move-in, with the exception of SUVs, pick-up trucks, or standard vans/minivans.
  • U-Hauls or any other oversized vehicles will not be permitted during move-in.

Getting to Campus for Move-In

Later this summer, driving directions will be posted to direct you to the residential areas on Move-In Day. Tip: Please follow recommended approach routes and directions to your residence halls carefully. With heavy traffic, these directions are designed to allow you to move in efficiently. Do not rely on GPS as that has led many families astray.

Important information about your arrival can be found at newstudents.cornell.edu. Link here for additional information about your Orientation schedule. You may also find your building ahead of time on a campus map.
