First-Year Experience

The First-Year Experience at Cornell provides new undergraduate students with an orientation to the University, eases the transition to university life, and helps students flourish during their first year on campus.

A collaboration between New Student Programs – located in the Carol Tatkon Center for first-year students – and a network of faculty and staff members, the program inspires and supports students throughout their crucial first year by:

  • providing an orientation to Cornell and life at the University;
  • encouraging intellectual curiosity, cultural exploration, and informal interactions with faculty;
  • developing programs to promote diversity and inclusiveness, integrity, and a commitment to freedom, equity, and reason;
  • exposing new students to services that support their academic goals, holistic well-being, and life pursuits; and
  • introducing new students' families to Cornell.
