Move-In Information: New Graduate & Professional Students

When to arrive:

Please plan to arrive and move in to your residence on the first day of your contract period.

  • Requests to move in early: Requests should be directed to housing@cornell.edu. Please note that requests often cannot be granted due to prior occupancy and to maintenance projects/scheduled cleaning.

  • Late arrivals: Residents of Hasbrouck, Thurston Court, and 13 South Avenue who plan to arrive later than the first day of your contract period should inform the Housing Office by email at housing@cornell.edu.

How to get to campus and find your building:

Directions and approach routes can be found at newstudents.cornell.edu. A campus map can be found here.

Where/when to check in to your building:

Hasbrouck residents - Check in at the Hasbrouck Community Center (located in the middle of the Hasbrouck complex) to pick up your keys and move-in information. We encourage you to arrive during Service Center business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm; Saturdays 10:00am-4:00pm). If you arrive outside of Service Center hours, please call your on-call Graduate Community Advisor (GCA) once you get on campus at (607) 227-5622, and he or she will provide you with your keys.

Thurston Court residents - Before going to Thurston Court, please FIRST check in at the Hasbrouck Community Center (located in the middle of the Hasbrouck Apartment complex, approximately a quarter of a mile from Thurston Court) to pick up your keys and move-in information.

Preparing to move in:

Visit Housing Amenities to find out what will be provided for you in your residence, and what you will be responsible for providing for yourself. International residents will benefit from the resources offered by Cornell's International Students and Scholars Office. Once you know what you need, our colleagues at The Cornell Store have partnered with Bed Bath & Beyond to offer online ordering with great deals on bedding, accessories, storage units, closet organizers, shower totes, lamps, fans, and other essentials. (Order by August 11th and have your item shipped to The Cornell Store for free!) Visit the Bed Bath & Beyond Campus Collection web site.

Consider personal property insurance:

All students should think about insurance coverage for their personal property. You will want to make certain that you cell phone, laptop, clothing, and other personal property items are covered for incidents that result in damage or loss of your belongings. If you are not currently covered under a policy with your family, consider Cornell University's preferred personal property insurance provider, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. Participation in this plan is optional, but strongly encouraged. Find out more here.
