Each year, millions of disposable paper and styrofoam containers end up in landfills after just one use. As part of Cornell Dining's Sustainability Action Plan, we're taking steps to reduce the use of single-use disposable containers, and we're beginning with the takeout containers at Okenshields Dining Room.
Starting April 17, 2017, Okenshields customers who are taking their lunch or dinner to go will have the option to use an Eco-Takeout reusable container. The reusable container has a one-time charge of just $7.50, and when you bring it back rinsed on your next visit, you can swap it for a freshly washed and sanitized reusable container for your next meal.
For the first two weeks of the program, customers who purchase a reusable takeout container during lunch or dinner periods will receive a complimentary meal! That offer now ends April 28.
Buy your Eco-Takeout reusable container with Big Red Bucks and there's no sales tax. Or, you can pay $7.50 plus tax on CornellCard, MealChoice, or any major credit card accepted at Cornell Dining eateries.
For now, Cornell Dining is still making disposable takeout containers available for our Okenshields customers who just wish to take their meal to go once in a while, and don't want to invest in a container they won't use often; for visitors to campus who won't be around to continue using the program; and for those who've forgotten to bring back their rinsed container to exchange.
Even when you're not on campus, these reusable containers are perfect for carrying food from home, going to a picnic, or heating up your leftovers. They're dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe.
Please remember to rinse your container as soon as you're done with your meal.
Stay tuned for more details about this great program, and don't forget to come grab your Eco-Takeout reusable container the week of April 17 so you can enjoy a complimentary meal!
